Venezuela: Maduro announces cabinet reformulation and

Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro announced a restructuring of his cabinet of ministers this Thursday (19). In all, six ministers will be reallocated in their functions for different aspects. The announcement takes place right after the installation of the national dialogue table. Negotiations between government and opposition will begin on September 3 in Mexico City, with mediation by Mexican and Norwegian representatives.

Some of the changes are also linked to the November 21 regional elections. The current Interior Minister, Admiral Carmen Meléndez, and the current Minister of Education, Eduardo Piñate, will be discharged from the post for the election campaign. Meléndez is the candidate of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (Psuv) for the mayor of Caracas, while Piñate will run for the government of the Apure state, which borders Colombia.

Yelitze Santaella, governor of Monagas state and member of the national board of the Psuv, is the new minister of education, being the third to assume the post in less than five months.

While Admiral Remigio Ceballos leaves the Strategic Operational Command of the Bolivarian National Armed Forces (Ceofanb) to head the Ministry of Interior, Justice and Peace.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will be headed by the current ambassador to China, Félix Plasencia, who took office in October 2020, and before that he was Minister of Tourism. “I receive this new responsibility with great commitment and pride.” declared.

While Jorge Arreaza, who occupied the post of chancellor, is now managing the Ministry of Industry and National Production.
