Last Tuesday night (5), the Special Committee to Combat Covid-19 (CEEC) of the Municipal Health Department (SMS) of Rio de Janeiro recommended the return of classroom classes in all public or private education units .
In the opinion, the experts who make up the committee emphasize that they consider the improvement of the epidemiological scenario in the city, with a lower rate of transmission and hospitalizations for covid-19, and the advance of the population’s vaccination coverage.

The text also highlights that for a safe return to schools, it is necessary to maintain the mandatory use of masks and the greatest possible ventilation in the environments. Also, classrooms will be able to return to their initial configurations, recovering the capacity of students that they welcomed in the period before the pandemic.
The Union of Education Professionals of Rio de Janeiro (Sepe-RJ), which has taken a stand against the total return to face-to-face activities in schools in recent months, has not yet commented on the latest decision.
