The minister of Communications, Fábio Faria, son-in-law of presenter Silvio Santos, went to his social networks, last Tuesday (16), to announce a partnership between the Brazilian government and South African businessman Elon Musk. This Thursday (18), the folder confirmed the Brazil in fact that there is no signed agreement and no prospects for carrying out the contract.
“The meeting between minister Fábio Faria and businessman Elon Musk was an initial contact, in which possible solutions to issues of common interest were discussed, such as the preservation of the Amazon forest and connectivity in needy areas”, informed the press office of the Ministry of Communications.

Faria was in California, USA, where he visited the SpaceX factory, Musk’s company. Later, the Brazilian minister met the businessman in Texas, also on US soil. From there, he posted the video on his social networks talking about the partnership.
“We talk about the environment and connecting people in rural schools in Brazil and in rural areas. I am very excited to start this partnership with Starlink and SpaceX in Brazil. It’s a huge pleasure,” said Faria, who was followed by Musk.

“We are eager to provide connectivity for the less connected and for people in Brazil who have more difficulty connecting, especially for schools and health facilities in rural areas”, added the businessman.

Also in the video, Faria expresses an unusual concern in the government of President Jair Bolsonaro (no party). “And also having the opportunity to help preserve the Amazon using its satellites and constellations. This is very important for us”. “We can ensure the preservation of the Amazon and monitor the region to prevent illegal deforestation and forest fires”, concluded Musk.
The Ministry of Communications informed that the South African has already asked to work in the country. “To operate in Brazil, any company interested in exploring satellite communication needs to obtain authorization from Anatel. As widely publicized by the press at the beginning of the year, there is already a process in this regard requested by Starlink, Elon Musk’s company.
OneWeb, SpaceX’s competitor, also requested authorization from the Brazilian government to operate in the country. The company was also visited by Faria, in the USA. However, he did not receive the same space on the minister’s social media, as compared to businessman and celebrity Musk.
