Last Wednesday (1), the Transport Commission of the Legislative Assembly of the State of Rio de Janeiro (Alerj) sent a letter to the State Public Ministry (MP-RJ), asking for the investigation of the causes of the constant delays in train lines of SuperVia.
According to the concessionaire, the delays are due to the theft of cables and signaling equipment from the tracks. The number of power cable thefts in the first half surpassed the occurrences of the whole of last year.

In the first two days of this week, on Monday (30) and on Tuesday (31), the trains on the Japeri branch, which runs from Central do Brasil, in the center of Rio de Janeiro, to Nova Iguaçu, municipality from the Baixada Fluminense, circulated at a longer than usual interval.
According to the document prepared by Alerj and filed with the 4th Public Prosecutor’s Office for Collective Protection of Consumer and Taxpayer Defense of the MP-RJ, the commission reports that “this is a succession of problems that have been occurring for some time in the face of the population and that, in this sense, there are delays, train stoppages due to lack of maintenance and parts, reduction in the number of employees in the company, and thus causing incalculable losses to workers”.
With the document, the commission also asks the concessionaire to explain what safety measures are being taken, so that delays are avoided.
According to the newspaper’s poll The day, SuperVia informed that it is initiating an agreement with the Military Police through the State Program for Integration in Security (Proeis).
According to the newspaper, military police will be hired to reinforce patrols in the railway system on their days off. In addition, the concessionaire said that it is expanding intelligence actions and changed the company that supplies the control agents. They make rounds throughout the system but have no police power to act.
