After two months of decline in Belo Horizonte, in July, the cost of the basic food basket rose again, according to a survey by the Minas Gerais Economic, Administrative and Accounting Research Institute (Ipead/MG), linked to UFMG. In the 12-month period, the basic food basket increased by 23.06% and, in July, it cost the worker R$ 568.27, that is, the equivalent of 51.66% of the minimum wage.

The Ipead survey is based on 13 food products. Tomato Santa Cruz recorded the highest increase (26.13%), followed by pasteurized milk (8.15%), ground coffee (4.41%) and tea meat (2.43%). On the other hand, English potato (-17.07%) and rice (-3.65%) prices fell.
Inflation rose more than wages
Also considering non-food products, in July, the costs of families with income from 1 to 40 minimum wages increased by 0.54%, according to the Broad Consumer Price Index (IPCA) of Belo Horizonte.
In 12 months, the IPCA registered inflation of 8.62% in the capital of Minas Gerais. The current minimum wage is fixed at R$ 1,100 and, at the beginning of the year, it had a recovery of only 5.26%, that is, below inflation.
