The Landless Rural Workers Movement (MST) carried out a slack action against the Economy Minister, Paulo Guedes, this Thursday afternoon (7th), at the Ministry’s entrance, in Brasília.
The demonstrators staged a theatrical performance that denounced Paulo Guedes, singing “Screamed Paulo Guedes, talking nonsense. And the Brazilian elite profiting shamelessly. Take the money and put it abroad and hunger is causing a lot of pain. It’s all expensive!”.
On the side of the ministry building, there was an intervention with the phrases “Guedes in paradise and the people in hell” and “Guedes profit from hunger”.
On Sunday (3), documents revealed by the Pandora Papers project, of the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists, revealed that Guedes maintains funds in offshore accounts abroad, the scandal became known as Pandora Papers.
“The scandal comes at a time when Brazil is going through one of the most severe sanitary, economic and institutional crises that collides with an inert action by the Ministry of Economy, which has not worked to improve the quality of life of the population. Not even one of Guedes’ main promises, such a V-shaped growth, was fulfilled”, says Jailma Lopes, a member of the MST’s national coordination for youth.

“Brazil currently has about 20 million people who are hungry. There are more than 14 million Brazilians without jobs. A harsh reality that torments families on a daily basis while the economy minister earns millions of dollars from investments in tax havens abroad”, he adds.
The act also denounced the “death pact” between the Ministry of Economy and the private health care company Prevent Senior, which was presented by attorney Bruna Moratto, at the CPI of Covid-19 in the Federal Senate.
Prevent Senior, which was denounced for criminal activities in the care of patients hospitalized with covid-19, also holds fortunes abroad listed by Pandora Paper. Thus, the government’s denial, supported by an elite of businessmen, was also responsible for more than 600,000 deaths claimed by Covid in the country.
On Tuesday (5), the Senate’s Economic Affairs Committee (CAE) approved two invitation requests to the Economy Minister, Paulo Guedes, and the President of the Central Bank, Roberto Campos Neto, to explain the offshore accounts abroad.
