Country and city organizations unite in

Organizations and popular movements from the countryside and the city will gather this Saturday (15), starting at 11 am, in the so-called “Conference against Hunger” to join the chorus of the struggle for food sovereignty and healthy eating for all. With an expected live virtual broadcast, the event is led by the MST in partnership with the Mídia Ninja collective and the 342 Arts campaign.

The more than 20 entities that are going to participate in the meeting intend to denounce the increase in hunger in Brazil, which today suffers an amount of 20 million people who spend 24 hours or more without anything to eat.

The data correspond to the period of December 2020 and were released in a survey by the Brazilian Research Network on Food and Nutritional Sovereignty and Security (Rede Pensan). The study showed that 55% of Brazilians lived during the period with food insecurity, whether severe, moderate or mild.

The subject should guide the reflections of the different debaters at the conference this Saturday, which will have names such as economists João Pedro Stédile (MST) and Eduardo Moreira, Sônia Guajajara (Articulation of Indigenous Peoples of Brazil-Apib) and Mãe Nívia Luz (mão de santo and leadership of the feminist and anti-racist struggle).

The Conference against Hunger is part of the list of activities that mark the International Day of Struggle for Food Sovereignty, traditionally celebrated on October 16th. The event will be broadcast by the MST, Mídia Ninja and the 342 Artes campaign on Youtube and Facebook.
