The latest extraordinary bulletin of the Covid-19 Observatory of the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz) released on Wednesday (8) reveals that the scenario of improvement in ICU bed occupancy rates for adults in the SUS persists, with more than 90% of the Federation units and 85% of the capitals are outside the alert zone.
According to the study, the state of Rio de Janeiro showed a drop in the indicator from 72% to 66% in ICU occupations for covid-19, which now places it in the intermediate alert zone. Roraima and Rio de Janeiro are the only two states with occupancy rates above 60%. The cities of Rio de Janeiro, with an occupancy rate of 94% and Boa Vista, with 82%, remain in the critical alert zone.
According to the researchers at the Observatory, the bulletin’s data point to a general trend towards a decrease in the incidence of serious cases, hospitalizations and deaths due to covid-19.
“The simultaneous and proportional reduction of these indicators demonstrates that the vaccination campaign is reaching the objective of protecting the population from the impact of the disease. However, the still high rate of positivity of the tests and the high lethality rate of the disease (currently at 3%) reveals that the transmission of the virus is intense and that several asymptomatic or unconfirmed cases may be occurring, without registration in the information systems ”, they point out.
