Circulation of the delta variant increases and Rio City Hall postpones

The City of Rio announced this Thursday (26) the postponement of the gradual plan to ease the restrictive measures against covid in the city. The first stage of the measures would take effect on the 2nd of the next, however, the high circulation of the delta variant delayed the planning. Reopening has no start date.

“Given the recent increase in the number of cases of the disease due to the circulation of the delta variant, the return of the entire risk map to moderate alert and the recommendation of the Covid-19 Special Coping Committee, the reopening plan was postponed”, said the Municipal Health Department (SMS), in a note sent to the press.

Mayor Eduardo Paes (PSD) had announced the program in mid-July. With three progressive phases, the first would have partial release of nightclubs and stadium audiences. In the last one, on November 15th, the use of masks in open areas would no longer be mandatory.

“Since the first announcement of the reopening plan, it was emphasized that these measures were conditioned to a favorable epidemiological scenario. If these conditions are not confirmed, the planning could be revised”, added the SMS.
