China accuses US of promoting “War mentality

The United States is forging military alliances and agreements to reinforce its strategy of confrontation against Beijing, said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China. The Chinese Foreign Ministry criticized the Aukus program and also attacked the summit between the United States, India, Japan and Australia.

The Aukus is a partnership between the United Kingdom, the United States and Australia to equip the latter country with a fleet of nuclear submarines. The Australians abandoned an agreement with the French company Naval Group for approximately US$90 billion, about R$470 billion, and closed the purchase of military material with the US and the British.

“China once again urges the three countries to heed the call of the international community, abandon the outdated Cold War mentality and limited geopolitical concepts, revoke the wrong decision, faithfully comply with international non-proliferation obligations and do more to benefit peace and regional stability,” said China Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying.

Beijing also criticized the summit organized by US President Joe Biden with the presidents of India, Japan and Australia in Washington. For the Chinese, the event was a demonstration of the American Cold War mentality.

In the rest of Asia, the Koreas are seeking to ease the tension as authorities in Seoul and Pyongyang seek to resume diplomatic ties. In India, thousands of farmers are on strike against farm laws.
