Brazilian notary offices start to receive accusations of

The more than 13 thousand Brazilian notary offices are now support points for women victims of domestic violence. Since Monday (25), the units have been part of the Sinal Vermelho campaign, which aims to encourage and facilitate complaints of any type of abuse within the domestic environment.

By means of an “X” symbol drawn on the palm of the hand, the victims will be able, in a discreet way, to signal to the employee of the registry of the situation of vulnerability, and this will be able to call the police.

The national action is permanent and involves the Association of Notaries and Registrars of Brazil (Anoreg/BR), an entity that represents all the Notaries in the country, the Association of Brazilian Magistrates (AMB) and the National Council of Justice (CNJ). The initiative is provided for in a law enacted in June this year.

To integrate notary offices into the initiative, Anoreg/BR produced and made available a series of materials to units across the country, such as videos, booklets, posters and materials for social networks, as a way to prepare employees to offer assistance. The women will be housed in a reserved room in each unit, where they will be able to register the complaint and call the authorities. If the victim does not want or cannot have help at the time, the professionals must write down their personal data, such as name, CPF, ID and telephone number, to later inform the responsible authorities.
